Make No Assumptions About Employers

Perhaps you are getting ready for a job interview or just had one and waiting to hear from the employer. Feeling anxious? Take a deep breath and relax. Let’s peek into the minds of employers to hear their thoughts. It may surprise you to learn that employers do not:

·Always have a clear picture of the person that they want to hire

·Necessarily have any urgency to hire even though they are actively interviewing

·Get back to you for many months which may have nothing to do with how interested they are in you…it’s not personal

Make sure that you make no assumptions about the employer. If you do and they are erroneous, you may say the wrong thing, jeopardizing your chances to succeed. As a search consultant and career coach, I work with both sides: the candidate/employee and employer. I’ve learned not to make any assumptions about either side.

In my next blog posting, I will tell you what questions to ask the employer to help you get your dream job and eliminate erroneous assumptions.

I’d love to hear from you.

Goodbye for now!
