Traditionally, the last quarter of the year and especially in December, employers are very busy making hiring, firing, and promoting decisions. This year, the results of the presidential election could have a significant impact on employer behavior.

Accelerate Your Job Search

I am concerned that many jobseekers, especially those that are suddenly unemployed, are not moving efficiently and effectively to capture their next position. If you recently lost your job, I highly recommend that YOU do not take several weeks off before beginning your job campaign. Think of this quarter as the last quarter of the year. Accelerate your job search with passion, precision, and planning.

Employed and hearing rumors of your company merging, downsizing, or closing? Do not wait to find out whether the rumors are true. Begin your job search right now! Remember, YOU can always turn down an offer!

Expecting a promotion? Take charge and actively pursue that promotion immediately. If you are told that the promotion will not become effective for several months, determine if the employer is purposely delaying for some unexplained reason which may or may not be related to the election.

I do not know what the impact of the election could have on your career. What I do know is that employers react strongly to changes or potential changes which they believe will have a positive or negative impact on their bottom line. Visualize Your Success and Succeed

In order to succeed in your job search, YOU must visualize yourself receiving the Right Fit Offer and accepting it. I believe that you need to spend more time imagining your success. It is that vision that will motivate you to sustain the relentless pursuit to achieve your goal.

Pause to Ponder

I have observed that many are undecided about what is the Right Fit Offer. If you have not created a blueprint of the Right Fit Job which would include the Right Fit Offer, YOU will not be able to visualize your success and succeed. If you have not created your blueprint, I suggest that you pause to ponder right now, and write that blueprint, as soon as possible. Then, you will be ready to plan your campaign.

Strategize to Succeed

After YOU are holding your blueprint in your hand, start to visualize your success. Then, create a written plan which will include the specific strategies and tasks that you will implement on a daily basis. But that's not enough! You must schedule your day to achieve results, such as finalizing your resume which includes your unique brand, scheduling an interview or staying in touch with your references.

Process or Results?

Let's set the record straight. I have observed that jobseekers spend a lot of time talking about what they are doing or have done at work. That's the process.

On your resume, YOU must incorporate positive results which are the outcomes. The resume must be carefully balanced to incorporate some process information, but the focus must be on positive results. For some professions such as financial executives, process is very important. Recognizing that the process should be clearly articulated succinctly, and the positive results must stand out. For all professions, employers need to know how your performance can have a positive impact on the bottom line.

Persuade Employers to HIRE YOU and Retain YOU

To elicit an offer is a complex task. Accepting an offer makes you feel good, but YOU must perform specific activities to maintain your work marriage. What are those activities and when should they start?

I will give you a clue. Remember what I said about RESULTS!

Eliciting the job offer that YOU want is a complex task. I have observed that those who are dazzled with multiple offers can do the following:

  • Exude confidence in themselves

  • Identify the decision-makers quickly

  • Establish rapport early in the interview process

  • Anticipate objections and eliminate them at the initial interview

  • Read between the lines and effectively use that information
